The modal split (the ratio between the different methods of transport) for container transport in the port of Antwerp has remained more or less the same for the past 12 years. Slightly over half of the containers were transported by lorry, compared to around one third by ship. When it comes to inland waterways, larger volumes have been combined on one ship over the past few years. These inland vessels can be planned and used more efficiently as a result.
