Shared bikes in particular have become very popular in Antwerp in recent years. They started at an early stage in 2011 with the launch of Velo city bikes. These were joined by several other shared-bike providers without a fixed location. 

Following the launch of shared bikes and cars, the first electric shared mopeds were launched in 2017, electric shared scooters in 2018 and electric shared cargo bikes in 2022. The City of Antwerp had almost 10,000 shared vehicles in 2022, 170 of which were zero-emission vehicles.
